Physician Job Search Tips: Avoid Unwanted Contacts and Solicitations

A recent article at amednews.com points out that physicians often feel that they get too many job solicitations, whether they are on an active job search or not.  The article mentions a physician who receives 8-10 job solicitations per week as an example of someone who receives too many job offers.  Our past experience as physician recruiters has introduced us to quite a few physicians who would feel fortunate to ONLY receive 8-10 job solicitations per week.

So how does this happen, and what can a physician job seeker do to prevent overflowing in-boxes and voice mail messages?  Everyone currently involved with HospitalRecruiting.com comes from a recruiting background prior to jumping into the job board business.  Experience tells us that the vast majority of unwanted physician job solicitations comes as a result of the physician candidate engaging a third party recruiting firm.  So, the key step to take to avoid unwanted contacts and solicitations is to avoid working with any recruiting firms unless it is absolutely necessary.

You might ask, “I’ve never worked with a firm, so why am I being bombarded with calls and emails?”  The answer is you don’t have to actively work with a recruiting firm to have “engaged” them or to share your contact information with them.  Many firms post advertisements that intentionally make it difficult to determine who is receiving an applicant’s information.  Most job boards allow recruiting firms to post jobs alongside jobs which are posted by real employers.  If a job board allows recruiting firms to post jobs, they almost definitely also allow firms to access their database of candidates.  Both recruiting firms and job boards commonly partner with other recruiting firms and job boards, and one inquiry from a candidate to one service can lead to a very large scale distribution of your “private” information.

The real solution is for physicians to take personal control over their job searches.  That means working and speaking directly with in-house recruiters who have jobs within your geographic parameters.  The approach will lead to a better job search experience by ensuring an accurate exchange of information, significantly reducing a hospital’s cost of hiring you, and protecting your contact and personal information.

HospitalRecruiting.com is one of the few physician job boards available that does not allow any recruiting firm access and only works with direct-hire employers.  We allow in-house recruiters to contact registered job seekers only if the job seeker has elected to receive such communications.  We have no hidden partners, and we will distribute your information only as directed by you.  If you have any questions about our site, please feel free to leave them in the comment section below, or contact us.
