As the cornerstone of the Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute Downtown Complex, our dedicated orthopedic specialty hospital — the first and only orthopedic hospital of its kind in the Southeast — is a showcase of technical and design innovations focused on delivering the ultimate patient experience.

The hospital’s orthopedic surgeons and sports medicine physicians are experts in joint replacement, orthopedic trauma, bone health and interventional pain management. A support system of specialists in neurosurgery, musculoskeletal radiology and anesthesia as well as hospital-based internal medicine physicians add to our comprehensive care.

Upon hospital admission, all surgery patients have a dedicated patient ambassador who will provide personalized care from the moment of arrival through discharge. When first entering the hospital, patients and families can get an unprecedented look inside the OR at our Educational Showroom. The showroom recreates a fully equipped operating room space with interactive 3D acrylic components and educational displays on the 10 most-performed orthopedic procedures.

The hospital’s 75 private inpatient rooms are equipped with smart-room technology — combining technology and comfort for an enhanced patient experience with interactive entertainment, customization options and seamless communication with the patient’s care team. In addition to advanced video capabilities and voice-activated room controls, digital whiteboards provide real-time updates and allow patients to interact digitally with everything from individualized care plans and medication schedules to X-ray images.

Ten advanced operating rooms are designed specifically for orthopedic surgery, with a focus on sterility, efficiency and open space. Video integration and the use of robotics allow the surgical team to better control instruments and view high-quality images of the procedure on magnified monitors. Four of the ORs feature video capabilities that can live stream surgeries to share across Orlando Health and around the world for virtual training opportunities. Before and after orthopedic surgery, patients are cared for in a 44-bed post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) by a team of highly trained critical care nurses specifically trained to meet the needs of orthopedic and spine patients.

In addition to clinical excellence, the specialty hospital incorporates robust education and research platforms, with an orthopedic residency program ranked fourth in the nation by the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. A 10-station bioskills lab gives residents and fellows hands-on training for a top-rated learning experience, and a 3D printer allows our learners to create prototypes for testing, patient application and potential new medical devices.

The hospital also has a 116-seat auditorium that provides ideal space for educational and meeting opportunities as well as an additional meeting space that seats up to 45 classroom-style.

Recognized for excellence, the institute has been named in the 100 Hospitals and Health Systems with Great Orthopedic Programs 2025 list by Becker’s Hospital Review. The Orlando Health Spine Center, which combines the expertise of Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute and Orlando Health Neuroscience Institute, was highlighted in the 100 Hospitals and Health Systems Skilled in Neuroscience and Spine Care 2025 list. The institute also earned a prestigious 2025 Top Teaching Hospital award from The Leapfrog Group and has been recognized for its positive workplace culture with two consecutive Best Places to Work awards from Modern Healthcare.
