Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital serves a 10-county area (over 200,000 residents) in south central Kentucky at its 295-bed acute care facility and several stand-alone outpatient centers. With more than 40 physician specialties and nearly 200 physicians on staff, LCRH offers the most comprehensive medical services in the region, including complete cardiac care, a level II neonatal nursery and a neurosurgery program rated among the best in the nation.

Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital is in Somerset, the largest city in southeastern Kentucky, combining the best of small-town values with big city accessibility and easy commuting distance to Lexington. Located just minutes from I-75, Somerset has a strong and solid business climate. This part of Kentucky is known as the houseboat capital of the world, with the majority of houseboats being manufactured in the immediate area. The public school system of Pulaski County serves approximately 8,000 students with eight elementary schools, two middle schools, two high schools and one technology center. Independent school systems include Somerset Independent, with one elementary school, one middle school and one high school; and Science Hill Independent, with one school for students K-8. There also are several Christian schools, with Somerset Christian School being the largest, with more than 300 K-12 students.
Somerset is also home to the Center for Rural Development, which brings nationally recognized, high quality performing and visual arts, concerts and other special events to the community. Somerset Community College, a division of the Kentucky Community-Technical College System (KCTCS), offers associate degrees and curricula for the first two years toward a bachelor’s degree. In addition, there are seven other colleges and universities located within 75 miles of Somerset.
Additionally, Somerset is known for the Somernites Cruise, which is held on the fourth Saturday of each month from April to October. The Cruise is the largest car and cruise show in Kentucky.
Somerset is home to beautiful Lake Cumberland, a 65,000-acre lake with 1,200 miles of shoreline. Lake Cumberland offers a wealth of recreational opportunities and provides excellent fishing for crappie, bass and other types of fish. Water sports from sailing and water skiing to house-boating are all popular on the lake. General Burnside Island State Park, Kentucky’s only state park located on an island, provides a peaceful retreat for campers, boaters, golfers and fishermen, with a campground and an 18-hole golf course. Four additional golf courses are located in the community. Just minutes south is Cumberland Falls State Park. Known as the Niagara of the South, Cumberland Falls boasts the only Moonbow in the Western Hemisphere, as well as white-water rafting, hiking and canoeing. Daniel Boone National Forest also offers exciting outdoor activities with more than 704,000 acres of mostly rugged terrain, with steep forested ridges, narrow ravines, 3,400 miles of sandstone cliffs and 600 miles of beautiful trails.
Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, a 295-bed acute-care facility, provides medical services to a 10-county service area in south central Kentucky. Since opening with 175 beds in 1976, the hospital has grown steadily to meet the needs of the community by completing ten major expansion projects – the latest being a five-story116,000 square-foot, medical tower with a three-story parking garage.
Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital offers complete cardiac care – including open-heart surgery – and a neurosurgery program that is rated among the best in the nation. It has three cath labs, comprehensive clinical pathology and laboratory, cardiopulmonary services, surgical services (including orthopedic, bariatric and urological) and a radiology department with nuclear medicine, ultrasound, 16- and 64-slice CT, X-ray with fluoroscopy, MRI and Open MRI. The hospital also has women’s and children’s services, a level II neonatal nursery, med/surg and intensive care units, inpatient rehabilitation unit, skilled care unit and a behavioral health unit to provide care for both adult and geriatric patients.
In order to better serve our patients, the hospital also has eight convenient off-site centers that provide outpatient services including: bariatric, cancer treatment, imaging, surgery, wound care and hyperbaric medicine, therapy, open MRI, and sleep disorders.
