**School based Nurse Practitioner opening in upstate NY**
Located in Utica, NY

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides health services on an outpatient basis to students who are enrolled in the program. The NP provides quality healthcare to pediatric patients in a school setting. The NP also functions as a team member of the agencys medical staff and promotes financial stability, quality improvement, and community support. The NP job responsibilities will encompass well-child care, care of patients with acute and chronic illnesses, and education and guidance to support children enrolled in the program. The NP is a 10 month position following the school calendar.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities
- Assess the health status of students through health and medical history.
- Working collaboratively with the Physician, the Nurse Practitioner will carry out the major responsibility for the students health care needs including evaluation, diagnosis, management and follow up.
- Institute and provide continuity of healthcare to patients, work with patients to endure understanding of and compliance with therapeutic regimen within established protocols and recognize when to refer the client to the supervising physician or other healthcare providers.
- Provide instruction and counseling to individuals, families and groups in the area of health promotion, health education and maintenance, including involving patients and families in planning for their health care.
- Maintain clinical records according to established protocols.
- Maintain clinical competence through continuing education, certification, and licensure.
- Participate in planning programs and in developing specific health policies and procedures.
- Practice safety, environmental and/or infection control methods.
- Participate in Advisory Council.
- Participate in activities as part of the Team, which may include, meetings, committees, and conducting or attending staff in-services as needed.
- Complete correspondence with parents/guardians as to the healthcare of the child.
- Collaborate with School Administration and their designees.
- Attends department meetings and any mandated continuing education/training programs
- Comply with all pertinent regulatory and agency regulations and operating standards.
- Establish a work environment that creates positive communication between supervisors and employees and assimilates new employees to the Agencys culture, values and mission.
- Participate in activities as part of the team that may include meetings, trainings, and committees.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Pediatric Nurse Practitioner License (PNP) or Family Nurse Practitioner License (FNP) in the State of New York and at least one (1) years experience working in a school or pediatric medical office environment.
- Evidence of essential leadership, communication, education, and counseling skills.
- Proficiency in communication technologies (email, cell phone, etc.)
- Highly organized with ability to keep accurate notes and records.
- Local knowledge about the connections to community health care and social welfare resources is desirable.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs) Requirements
- Extensive knowledge of current healthcare needs and issues of school aged children and adolescents.
- Ability to work collaboratively with the healthcare team.
- Ability to collect adequate client data, conduct a physical exam, interpret physical findings and manage and refer the student as conditions or protocols dictate.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals or groups in a teaching situation.
- Ability to design and conduct research.
- Knowledge of health education, practice and theory.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
- Ability to maintain quality, safety and infection control standards.
