UP Health System - Portage, located in Hancock, Michigan, is seeking a dedicated and skilled Board-Certified/Board-Eligible Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA) to join our emergency medicine team. Position Highlights:
- Specialty Focus: Emergency Medicine
- Work Schedule: 216, 8-hour night shifts per year (Mon-Fri, 1pm to 9pm)
- Team Environment: Join a collegial and supportive team of 5 employed ED physicians
- Facility: ACS-verified Level III trauma center with an average annual census of around 10,000 patients
- Support Systems:
- ATLS certification
- ED physicians provide basic admin orders for hospitalists from 5pm to 7am
- Hospital EMR: Meditech Magic
- Digital radiology, point-of-care ultrasound, 24/7 on-site CT, MRI available Mon-Fri, 8am to 5pm
- Nurse triage process
- Telehealth psychiatrist assistance for psychiatric consultations
- 11 beds inclusive of 8 private rooms and 3 trauma bay beds
- Location: Situated on the main hospital campus in Hancock, MI

- 36-bed critical access hospital, including a 3-bed ICU and a 7-bed Labor and Delivery Unit
- Licensed for up to 10 swing beds
- Comprehensive on-site ancillary services: Lab, Physical, Speech & Occupational therapies, Cardio-Pulmonary Rehab
- Chest Pain Accreditation
- Inpatient and outpatient pharmacy
- 24/7 General Surgery, Orthopedics, and OB/GYN on-call
- Multi-agency behavioral health evaluations
- Telehealth support for neurology and psychiatry
Practice Description:
- Responsibilities:
- Provide care for patients of all ages presenting to the emergency department
- Conduct evaluations and treatments
- Coordinate care within the emergency department setting
- Collaborate with attending emergency department physicians and the interdisciplinary team
- Perform comprehensive evaluations, medical management, therapeutic interventions, patient education, and discharge summaries
- Report to and receive functional guidance from supervising and attending physicians and the medicine section chief of staff
