Summary:
Under the direction of the Executive Director of Philanthropy, assists with planning and organizing fundraising activities for the region while adhering to its mission, vision, objectives, and strategic plan. In addition, this position is responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of business and individual donor prospects with a capacity to make five and six-figure gifts to support The Foundation’s specified priorities. The Philanthropy Officer I will primarily manage corporate and private foundation relationships in addition to carrying a small portfolio of prospective and major gift donors and will cultivate, solicit, and steward these relationships for the Foundation. This position will also create and execute strategies of prospecting, cultivating, and stewarding gifts to all levels of private citizens, organizations, and foundations as well as grant writing.
Responsibilities:
• Meets expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
• Identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards individual, foundation, and corporate gifts of $2,500 and above.
• Manage relationships with approximately 10-20 prospective donors and will be expected to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward these very important relationships
• Identifies and cultivates grateful patients through daily hospital rounding in collaboration with hospital leadership, physicians, and nursing directors.
• Works collaboratively with and in support of volunteers, and other foundation staff, to cultivate and solicit donors for institution priorities
• Cultivate and present proposals to individual and corporate prospects
• Write proposals, follow-up letters, and introductory letters, and prepare background information and materials for cultivation and solicitation activities as needed
• Records all prospect contacts in Raiser’s Edge NXT to ensure positive and purposeful prospect and donor relations
• Requests prospect research on individuals, foundations, and corporations to evaluate prospects for giving.
• Participates in regularly scheduled Portfolio Management meetings with the Regional Office.
• Plan and implement major donor-related cultivation events and activities
• Must be a highly energetic professional with a track record of building donor relationships and closing gifts
• Participate in all aspects of the gift cycle: Initiate contacts with potential leadership and major gift donors, Develop appropriate cultivation strategies for them, including working with volunteers, Move potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure, Make solicitations when appropriate, Maintain stewardship contacts with donors; adhere to the highest ethical standards; demonstrate empathetic disposition, and perseverance; reflect optimistic and positive attitude, and convey sensitivity to needs of the donors
• Be a resource for development staff, from identifying potential volunteer connections to strategizing about donor prospects and plans
• Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, and safety standards.
• Researches, writes, and submits grant applications to Corporate, Foundation.
• Provides staff support for special programs of the Foundation, including the Foundation Gala.
• Responsible for the Annual Direct Mail Appeal Program of the Foundation and any other community appeals.
• Represents the Foundation at donor and community events as assigned by the Executive Director of The Foundation.
• Assists the work of Foundation committees, particularly the Annual and Major Gifts Committee.
• Directs Associate Giving Campaign.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Must be able to multitask and meet deadlines.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Minimum of 3 years of fundraising experience in the healthcare and or not-for-profit sector required.
- 5+ years of experience preferred.
- Must have at least 2 years of proven grant writing experience.
