Radiation Therapist - Oncology Radiation Therapy - Full Time

Summary:
With minimum supervision administer radiation therapy treatments & simulation in accordance with the prescription & instructions of the radiation oncologist. Must be able to judge when the treatment should be withheld until consultation with the radiation oncologist. Must be able to assist in treatment planning procedures including tumor localization & dosimetry.
Responsibilities:
- Maintains consistency with Administrative and Departmental policies with appropriate behavior, dress, attitude, attendance, confidentiality, professionalism, and reliability.
- Works in area assigned following guidelines applicable to that area.
- Maintains accurate schedule and sees patients on or before their appointed times whenever possible.
- Explains procedure to patient. Assess patients and family members for special needs such as dietary, psychosocial, nursing/physician consultation, etc.
- Prepares rooms and equipment for use. Provides a safe and clean environment for radiation oncology patients.
- Properly reports variation in treatment set-up or dose delivery to person in charge and/or oncologist. Reports erratic operation of equipment to person in charge and/or Biomedical personnel. Observes radiation safety measures for patient and personnel.
- Performs accurate documentation and record keeping.
- Performs weekly chart checks on opposite machine and rotates that responsibility each week with partner.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Education/Skills
- Basic Computer Knowledge
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Graduate of an AMA approved School of Radiation Therapy Technology.
Experience
- Preferred minimum of one year of experience in a hospital or treatment center environment but will accept students from and AMA approved School of Radiation Therapy Technology.
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications
- ARRT, RT (R), Must be registered or registry eligible and complete the requirements and become registered within the first year of employment.
- Must possess a current Medical Radiologic Technologist certificate with the Texas Medical Board or if a new grad and in training, must have started the application before hire.
- Maintain current licensure/registration/certification and provide the hospital with a copy of indicated requirements.
- Maintain current BLS certification.
