- Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide services based on the physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and other related criteria appropriate population in his/her assigned area
- Maintains required core competencies.
- Complies with set Policies and Procedures (i.e. name tag, dress code, parking, smoking, etc.)
- Is at bench and begins work within +/- minutes of shift. Overtime is approved by Clinical Supervisor or by the Senior Tech.
- Demonstrates flexibility in accepting scheduling changes or requests for PTO.
- Acts as a role model for students and new employees and assists phlebotomists with difficult draws.
- Performs required WX procedures according to SOP.
- Performs required daily and preventative maintenance according to SOP.
- Notifies supervisor of discrepant results, problems with reagent QC, or nonfunctioning equipment, Attempts to resolve problems and completes corrective action reports as necessary.
- Determines acceptability of specimens and does not run tests on known unacceptable specimens. Notifies phlebotomist, physician or nurse of unacceptable specimens and documents the notification.
- Judges appropriateness of test order and checks questionable orders. Recommends appropriate tests/profiles where applicable.
- Verifies abnormal results by repeat testing when necessary.
- Produces accurate results.
- Completes testing within the designated turnaround times.
- Recognizes and investigates possible cause of unusual test results and/or problems. Attempts to resolve problems and completes corrective action report forms as necessary.
- Reports manually entered test results accurately on work lists and via the computer.
- Monitors supply inventory, orders and receives supplies correctly, avoid emergency orders whenever possible.
- Documents participation in analyzing proficiency testing samples in the sub-departments worker, and maintains proficiency of >80% in those areas.
