Summary:
Implements Infection Prevention and Control activities, to include under the supervision of the Director of Quality Management: monitoring, identifying and reporting patient and employee infection. Performs surveillance rounds, chart reviews, laboratory report reviews, completes consults to Infection Prevention and Control. Analyzes data from above activities in order to: reveal trends, identify need for focus studies, respond with appropriate educational activities, and provide support to hospital departments when deficiencies are noted, works with director to devise recommendations and plans to improve quality of care. Will also consult with department managers regarding infection prevention and control issues to assure departmental compliance with all applicable policies and procedures. Provides information to the Clinical Services Committee and others as appropriate including: hospital acquired associate infection reports, results of focused studies and investigational reports, product information, case studies, employee illness trends, epidemiologically significant organisms and trends and antibiotic resistance/sensitivity patterns. Will also monitor hospital compliance with regulatory agency standards relating to Infection Prevention and Control. Provide education to departments regarding regulatory agency standards. Will perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
A. Education/Skills
• Graduate of a state board accredited school of nursing or equivalent. BSN preferred. Knowledge of environmental services and nutritional food services functions and standards of practice highly desired. Must have good communication skills.
B. Experience
• Experience in Infection Control preferred.
C. Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications
• Current license or permit to practice professional nursing in the State of Texas. Certification in Infection Control and complete CIC certification within 3 years. BLS preferred.
