Summary:
Medical School graduate with a Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy degree from an approved medical school, or possession of Standard Certificates as issued by the Educational Council for Foreign Medical Graduates. Possesses an active, unrestricted medical license in the state(s) of practice as issued by the medical licensing authority of that state
Requirements:
• Develops a plan of care for each patient, including a complete medical history, a physical examination, diagnosis of the causes of injuries and illnesses, appropriate treatment and/or referral, and hospital visitations when necessary.
• Stresses the importance of preventive medicine and utilizes all available resources, such as laboratory and radiological testing as aids in diagnosing and confirming or denying the presence of disease.
• Practices medicine within the guidelines of his/her specialty. However, agrees to see patients outside of his/her specialty, in case of emergency, or other special situations as determined by the Chief Medical Officer.
• Refers those cases that require specialist services, but will maintain responsibility for assuring that those services are required.
• Maintains admitting privileges at local hospitals or arranges a pre-approved alternative such as a hospitalist service or physician group and provides follow-up hospital care where privileges permit.
• Prescribes and/or dispenses required medication to clients as medically indicated.
• Orders immunization of patients against communicable diseases.
• Supports and adheres to Commitment to Excellence goals in Clinical Quality, Service Quality, Community Value and Business Literacy.
• Participates as directed in network quality improvement projects/pilots and agrees to follow its protocols and directives. This also includes CPN approved operational and business related functions/tools at the practice.
• Prepares and signs medical records and related reports in a timely manner. Maintains a medical record for each patient in a legible format with appropriate documentation of services rendered. Properly documents and codes each patient encounter to assure medical accuracy and appropriate billing.
• Maintains patient confidentiality and complies with all regulations for same e.g. HIPAA with no infractions. Works to provide high quality care and maintain patient satisfaction while at all times treating patients with respect and dignity.
• Fulfills all requirements as detailed in individual employment agreement.
• Maintains ethical and professional standards of applicable national, state and local medical societies and licensing agencies.
• Participates in continuing professional education to keep his/her medical knowledge and professional competence at a level determined by the Chief Medical Officer and in accordance with credentialing guidelines.
• Provides medical supervision to the assigned staff or other health professionals. Reviews and evaluates the credentials of any supervised Nurse Practitioner(s), Clinical Staff or Physician Assistant(s) in conjunction with all state and federal regulations when the above ancillary professionals work with the physician in a mutually agreeable fashion. Participates in associate performance reviews as directed.
• Encouraged to participate in community education functions and encouraged to assist community health groups in a medical advisory capacity.
• Seeks methods for cost containment within the assigned area of responsibility. Assists management as necessary, including periodic review to ensure that the practice is efficient and cost effective for the services provided.
• Participates in managed care plans as directed and does so in an efficient and cost effective manner as outlined by CPN’s Medical Management Program if in effect in the physician’s marketplace.
• Works with management to establish and maintain appropriate charges for the services provided including the submission of all charges, accurately coded, and submitted within company guidelines and policies.
• Maintains knowledge base necessary to appropriately code for services provided, including participation in on-site medical record internal audits and selected educational efforts as prescribed by CPN.
• Uses oral and written communication skills to effectively convey ideas in a clear, positive manner that is consistent with the CHRISTUS mission.
• Follows established CHRISTUS Provider Network policies, procedures, objectives which include but are not limited to quality improvement initiatives, safety, environmental infection control, OSHA and guidelines as established in CPN’s integrity program.
• Implements job responsibilities in a manner that is consistent with the CHRISTUS mission and supportive of CHRISTUS Provider Network’s cultural diversity objectives. Treats all CHRISTUS Provider Network Associates with dignity and respect.
• Maintains integrity by supporting and complying with the CHRISTUS Code of Ethics and Mission and Vision statement.
• Attends monthly physician partner meetings and actively participates in marketing efforts to build, maintain, and sustain a thriving practice.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
