Summary:
This Job is responsible for the administration of sterile processing including: quality of decontamination, cleaning, sterilization of surgical instruments, reprocessable equipment, equipment, Endo-scopes and supplies for the Perioperative Dept. The Job also responsible for the functional coordination of the dept. within and with outside other depts./resources.
Responsibilities:
- Meets expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
- Acts as liaison between SPD, Perioperative Services, Labor and Delivery, and Nursing Units.
- Provide input on PAR level adds, changes, and deletions.
- Take physical inventories, on a periodic basis, of Floor Stock and SPD to ensure accuracy and integrity of the system.
- Understand, operate and instruct associates on the proper use of inventory control devices, i.e. scanners and bar code readers.
- Assist all newly assigned Floor Stock associates in all facets of SPD functions.
- Ensure sound inventory control practices are adhered to, such as stock rotation, care custody, and control of all inventory.
- Demonstrates competence to perform assigned client care responsibilities in a way that meets the age-specific and developmental needs of the persons served by the department.
- Appropriately adapts assigned client assessment, treatment, and / or care methods to accommodate the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, age-specific and other developmental needs of each person served.
- Responsible for establishing and following written policies and procedures used to decontaminate, reprocess, care and package instruments and equipment used in patient care processes.
- Demonstrates knowledge and responsibility for infection control procedures related to decontamination and reprocessing of instruments and equipment.
- Adheres to sterilization protocols as provided in the Sterilization Reference Manual
- Leads in implementation and/or monitoring of quality control programs.
- Assist in the reviewing / revising process of the QI plan in compliance with hospital and departmental procedures, policies, and standard of care.
- Participate in continuing education, formal and informal.
- Other activities as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Education/Skills
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
Experience
- 1 – 2 years of experience in sterile processing preferred
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications
- IAHCSMM Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) or Certified Registered Central Sterile Tech required
