Summary:
The Swim Instructor Lead will lead, design, and foster growth from the beginner age groups through the senior training group while working within the mission, vision, and values of CHRISTUS Health.
The role of the Swim Instructor Lead is to lead in the management of the swim club. This includes instruction of competitive swimming skills, implementing programming for athletes from beginner to advanced, developing systems for short-term and long-term club growth, community as well as CHRISTUS Health connections. The swimmers of all ages should be given every opportunity to develop swim skills by progressing through the training groups. As coaches lead by example, swimmers should gain an understanding of hard work, good sportsmanship, and the value of a team.
Responsibilities:
- Meets expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
- Associate will instruct swimmers in competitive swimming skills including technique in all 4 strokes, turns, starts, meet preparation, and race strategy.
- Encourage meet and team event participation.
- Associate will maintain structure and discipline in the group setting and lead practices with focus, energy, and enthusiasm.
- Associate will support collaborative relationships with CHRISTUS Health as well as local organizations.
- Associate will actively market our services to the community and increase awareness among athletes and parents of sports affiliations.
- The associate will actively pursue opportunities to expand into new community partnerships.
- Associate will attend swim meets, team functions, LSC meetings, and regional and national conferences as necessary.
- Associate will assist with the hiring of assistant coaches and support staff.
- Associate will supervise the daily performance of staff in assigned work areas.
- Performs counseling of associates as needed.
- Provides input and evaluation of new and transferred associates during their orientation and probationary period.
- Associate will communicate effectively with the swim instructors about daily practice procedures, emergencies, and information regarding swimmers and swim club well-being.
- Associate will also communicate effectively with the assistant coaches, swimmers of all ages, CHRISTUS Health staff and swim club parents.
- Associate will lead in the creation and implementation of a season plan, including training, meets, and special events.
- The associate will perform a needs assessment of their clients and recommend and develop clinics and educational programs as necessary.
- Associate will engage with and communicate promptly and clearly with parents.
- Completes inventory and maintains appropriate levels of supplies and materials in the work area.
- Ensures pool chemical level is appropriate for swimmers.
- Ensures the delivery of quality services by identifying client needs, developing quality programs, and marketing to the community.
- Completes requested leadership reports accurately and in a timely manner.
- Must follow all rules and guidelines set by USA Swimming including Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policy and any continuing education requirements set by CHRISTUS Health.
Job Requirements:
Education/Skills
- High School Diploma or equivalent years of experience required.
Experience
- Must have a competitive swimming background with a strong desire to develop personal coaching and leadership skills.
- 3 years of Swim Instructor experience preferred.
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications
- Must complete all USA Swimming Coach membership certifications, safety training, and Athlete Protection Training in a timely manner.
- BLS required.
- ASCA Level 3 or higher required.
