Locums Neurology Physician

We are seeking a Locums Neurology Physician to provide full-time coverage for a long-term locum assignment in Berlin, New Hampshire, with the possibility of extension. The position is for a duration of 6-12 months or longer.   The Locums Neurology Physician will provide office-based general neurology services to both new and established patients, primarily focusing on adults and adolescents. Responsibilities include managing medications, educating and counseling patients and families, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, and referring patients to related specialties such as cardiology, orthopedics, pain management, pulmonology, and sleep medicine. Additionally, the physician will collaborate with subspecialty neurologists at tertiary care centers and communicate effectively with primary care physicians (PCPs). The physician will be responsible for performing and interpreting electromyograms (EMGs) and electroencephalograms (EEGs), with the ability to administer Botox injections being highly desirable.

During the initial orientation period, appointment durations will range from 40-60 minutes to help the physician become familiar with AVH’s EMR and workflow. Afterward, the standard appointment durations will be 20 minutes for established patients and 60 minutes for new patients. The typical productivity is expected to be 12-16 patients per day, with 2-4 new patients daily. The most common diagnoses encountered in the practice include migraine, dizziness, headaches, memory loss, cognitive impairment, Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, and polyneuropathy.

Schedule:

·         Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (includes a one-hour lunch break, 12:00-1:00 PM).

·         No call responsibilities.

Requirements:

• Proficiency in performing and interpreting EMG and interpreting EEG studies (required).
• Active or ability to obtain a New Hampshire medical license promptly.
• Full payer enrollment.
• Native or bilingual proficiency.
• At least 2-5 years of broad-spectrum neurology experience preferred; selected new graduates may be considered.
• Prior experience in small hospitals or Critical Access Hospitals (CAH) is desirable.
• Comfort with the rural nature of the practice, as this is a solo coverage role with AVH’s available specialists and diagnostic capacity.
