Summary:

Implements Physical Therapy treatment programs as directed by the Physical Therapist. Participates in departmental activities such as program development, safety, and infection control. Assists with supervising Physical Therapy Assistant students, Rehab Technicians, and Volunteers.

CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital - Westover Hills (CSRH-WH) is a 150-bed hospital serving the fastest growing area of San Antonio. Specialized care includes orthopedic and surgical services, ICU, women’s services, a newborn nursery, comprehensive cardiovascular care from diagnostics to open heart surgery, vascular lab, sleep center, emergency services, the CHRISTUS Weight Loss Institute, wound care, rehabilitation, and more. The campus also boasts an Outpatient Imaging Center and three medical plazas, one of which houses our CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Family Medicine Residency Program and CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Family Health Center.

Responsibilities:

  •  Implements individualized treatment plans, as indicated, considering diagnosis and age specific needs, as established by the Physical Therapist in conjunction with the patient/family.
  • Adheres consistently to the P&Ps relating to documentation, to include: Daily and Weekly Progress Notes as required, and other notations, as appropriate.
  • Reports observations and the response of the patients to the Physical Therapist, other team members, patient/family, and the physician.
  • Assists the Physical Therapist with discharge planning, including home programs, patient and family education/training, and identification of equipment needs.
  • Assists in the supervision of Rehab Technicians, Physical Therapy Assistant students, and Volunteers.
  • Participates in the orientation of new Associates and scheduling of patients to assure quality patient coverage.
  • Demonstrates adherence to the CORE values of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa.
  • Understands and supports Performance Improvement activities.
  • Complies with departmental productivity standards.
  • Maintains an awareness of other agencies within the community in order to make appropriate referrals, when indicated, to network and to increase knowledge of community resources.
  • Identifies and pursues educational opportunities for self and department.
  • Participates in in-service programs, departmental, and interdepartmental meetings.
  • Demonstrates competence to perform assigned patient care responsibilities in a manner that meets the age-specific needs of patients served by the department.
  • Appropriately adapts assigned patient assessment, treatment and/or service methods to accommodate the unique physical, psychological, cultural, age-specific, and other developmental needs of each patient served.
  • Fosters and promotes positive and professional relationships with members of the medical staff, physicians, and referral sources.
  • Performs other related duties as directed.

Requirements:

Education/Skills

  • Associates degree from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program or certificate from an accredited school is required.
  • All modalities/equipment used by a Physical Therapy Assistant as outlined by the Executive Council of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Examiners.

Experience

  • None required.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

  • Licensed as a Physical Therapy Assistant by the State Board of Executive Council of Physical and Occupational Therapy Examiners of Texas.
  • BLS certification is required.
  • Must also successfully complete the pre-employment/post job offer health screening examination and the annual screening, each year thereafter as an employee.
