Job Description

Faculty position employed by the University of Texas at Tyler School of Medicine, practicing in UT Health East Texas facilities.


The University of Texas at Tyler School of Medicine is seeking an experienced and dynamic Physician Assistant (PA) Program Director to help establish and lead a new PA Master's Program, anticipated to begin in Summer 2027. The Program Director will play a pivotal role in shaping and growing this innovative program, working closely with the School of Medicine leadership and university administration. This is a unique opportunity to join a collaborative and forward-thinking institution with full support from both the School of Medicine and the university.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and oversee all aspects of the PA Master's Program.
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Recruit, manage, and mentor PA faculty and staff.
  • Design curriculum and educational strategies in collaboration with faculty and staff.
  • Provide leadership and vision to create a robust and sustainable program.
  • Report directly to the Associate Dean of Health Professional Education within the School of Medicine.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience as a practicing Physician Assistant.
  • At least 3 years of experience in PA education, including leadership roles.
  • Proven ability to develop, implement, and manage academic programs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and university administration.

Construction is currently underway on a five-story, 248,000-square-foot Medical Education Building (MEB) in Tyler’s Midtown District. Connected by a skybridge to UTHealth Tyler, the MEB will support interdisciplinary education for medical students and resident training. It will also aid as part of a medical education program expansion throughout the UT Health East Texas Health System. The building is scheduled for completion in fall of 2025.
