Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY: Plans, directs, organizes, maintains, and oversees the daily operations of the Zia Laboratory in accordance with accepted standards and practices to meet the needs of patients and the hospital. This position will work closely with the Laboratory Director to augment daily operations, training, essential cross coverage, staff development, and will champion special projects pertaining to laboratory growth and accreditation. Will work closely with the laboratory directorship, clinical laboratory staff, CSV nursing, and Zia Cancer Center management.
Requirements
EDUCATION: High school graduate and AA or BA in Business required. MLS or MLT preferred.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: MT or MLT (ASCP) preferred. Valid New Mexico driver’s license.
SKILLS:
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Requires excellent customer relations’ skills including the ability to deal effectively with demanding/difficult situations
- Working knowledge to the financial cycle of Patient Accounts, Epic registration, Laboratory pre-analytical testing, phlebotomy/specimen procurement, and HIS & LIS.
EXPERIENCE: Four year’s prior Laboratory/Healthcare office management experience required. One year supervisory experience required.
NATURE OF SUPERVISION:
- Responsible to: Laboratory Executive Director, Laboratory Director
ENVIRONMENT:
-Bloodborne pathogen: C: (Routine exposure in daily duties.) Exposed to potentially infectious material on a regular basis and is part of the expected job task.
May be required to wear gloves, laboratory coat, facemask, and goggles. Exposed to carcinogenic, hazardous and flammable chemicals; biohazardous and radioactive materials; sharp needles and blades; infectious specimens; toxic fumes and mental stress.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: May be required to work other than a standard shift as dictated by workload, staffing, and equipment failure. Standing, sitting, and/or ambulating for the entire shift assigned. Prefer the ability to move supplies and equipment up to 50 pounds.
