DUTIES: Provide inpatient care and manage and coordinate patient care throughout treatment. Diagnose, treat, or provide continuous care to hospital inpatients. Prescribe medications or treatment to hospital inpatients. Admit patients for hospital stays. Write patient discharge summaries and provide them to primary care physicians. Conduct discharge planning and discharge patients. Order or interpret the results of tests such as laboratory tests and radiographs (x-rays). Communicate with patients’ primary care physicians upon admission, when treatment plans change or at discharge to maintain continuity and quality of care. Refer patients to medical specialists, social services or other professionals as appropriate. Participate in continuing education activities to maintain or enhance knowledge and skills. Attend inpatient consultations in areas of specialty. Hospitalist Physicians are medical specialists who often complete their residency training in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine or another primary care medical specialty. Hospitalist Physicians confine their practice to an in-patient hospital setting. Hospitalist Physicians have the same education and training as a primary care physician, but specialize in providing hospital care. Hospitalist Physicians focus on patient care to inside a hospital, rather than on a specific organ or medical issue. Hospitalist Physicians are medical specialists who often complete their residency in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine or another primary care medical specialty. Hospitalist Physicians confine their practice to an in-patient hospital setting. Hospitalist Physicians have the same education and training as a primary care physician, but specialize in providing hospital care. Hospitalist Physicians focus on patient care inside a hospital, rather than on a specific organ or medical issue. A Hospitalist Physician will rely on his/her primary care medical training to provide hospital medicine medical care to both hospitalized adult and pediatric patients (inpatients). The SOC code for Hospitalists is: 29-1229.02, Hospitalists.

REQUIREMENTS: Medical degree (U.S. or foreign equivalent) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree (U.S. or foreign equivalent); completion of residency in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine; board eligible or board certified in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine; and possess or eligible to apply for Alaska medical license.
